# Phone addiction #IssuesFriendsDealWith - [ ] find better option for audio books and guided meditation ⏫ ## What would a simple solution look like? ## So what is the problem? - More than anything...[[opportunity cost]]. Your life will be so much better without your phone. Think of all will do with the time, focus, and health. (and acknowledge that the focus is relevant for much more than the time you are using the phone) - I have a feeling like using a phone to wind down after an adventurous night might risk not encoding that memory. (kinda relates to the tetris and trauma thing) ## Moments of relapse - ## Problems the phone causes... - [[cross addiction]] - [[Time confetti]] - Hurts and weakens various body parts - [[my neck]] - [[shoulders]] - [[my eyes]] - [[lungs]] ([[screen apnea]]) - plus all that is lost via [[opportunities]] ## What healing would look like... - Using it more mindfully - using it less and less - finding it less and less enjoyable - finding it more and more repulsive - finding the use of it ethically abhorrent ## What makes it tricky... - My phone is used to plan things with people - So do this in batch, in real-time ## Some small steps... - turn off the sounds alerts for everyone - hard line to never use it in bed - hard line to turn it off at 8pm - hard line to only turn it on at 10am - Get a home phone - Respond to text chains with "let's discuss in real time" ## Harm reduction - Only use it - squating or planking - after I've done a 3 min meditation - outside - with a timer set - Batch the uses - Only use it on the roll of a dice ## Ideas and Solutions... - Leave the house without it - [[just use paper]], seriously [[send friends letters]]. - Get independent music, audiobook, - crowd it out - get a dumb phone - Give it to someone who looks for me and tells me if I need to look - Put the sim in a non-portable device - Put the phone in a box that won't open - Strong habit to only check it on certain days / times - Discipline - Replace it with something - Have messages printed out... - no clear solution exists with basic googling (3min) - - Have auto-response for people to call - Tasker - Look into it. - AutoResponder for Signal (Android App) - - Forward calls to home phone ## Misc - I've seen people have a harder time giving up their phone than cigarettes, caffeine, sugar, weed, alcohol, and cocaine. I've seen the phone have horrible effects on my and other people's lives
