# Yawning
I tend to yawn during [[meditation]]. This feels like a good thing.
Yawning activates the [[parasympathetic nervous system]], which attenuates the [[sympathetic nervous system]], reduces [[stress]], and lowers the risk for high [[blood pressure]].
## Excessive yawning

Increased oxygen intake: Yawning helps to increase the oxygen levels in the bloodstream, leading to a refreshed and more alert feeling.
Cooling of the brain: Yawning may help to regulate the temperature of the brain by cooling it down through the inhalation of cool air.
Stimulation of the autonomic nervous system: Yawning may stimulate the autonomic nervous system, leading to increased alertness and a more awake feeling.
Relieve stress: Yawning can help relieve stress by stretching the jaw and neck, releasing tension in these areas.
Improved brain function: Yawning may improve brain function by increasing blood flow to the brain and helping to oxygenate the brain.
